Winslow Named Commissioner of Public Safety for the Oneida Indian Nation

Terry E. Winslow of Auburn has been promoted to the position of commissioner of public safety/fire marshal for the Oneida Indian Nation. Winslow joined the Nation’s public safety department as the fire marshal in December of 2006. In his new capacity, he is still responsible for fire protection, but has the added duties of environmental management, health and safety oversight and codes enforcement at the Nation.
Previously, Winslow served the City of Auburn, N.Y. as a career firefighter for 20 years in a variety of positions, retiring as the interim fire chief. He is a Fire Service Medal of Valor recipient, and a nationally recognized, all-hazards, first responder instructor with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Center for Domestic Preparedness in Anniston, Alabama. Having simultaneously held the position of the city’s safety officer, he brings a wide variety of knowledge and skill to the position of commissioner.
Winslow served for four years in the United States Coast Guard, honorably discharged in 1981 as a first class petty officer.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in fire science from Belford University, as well as having completed extensive emergency management training and education from FEMA’s Emergency Management Institute.
Winslow and his wife Susan have three children: Adam and his wife Nichole, Chelsea, and Kimberlee.
