The Meaning of the Oneida Seal

The Oneida seal has significant meaning.

The eagle sitting on top of the tree is a protector and has great vision to watch over all Nations. The eagle warns us of impending danger.
The wampum belt symbolizes the six nations in the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. The wampum has the power to make a good mind.
The tree of peace is said to be a great white pine tree planted when the Peacemaker came to visit our people and bring the good message of peace, power, and righteousness. Buried under the white roots spread in all four directions are the weapons of our people, creating an everlasting peace.
Each clan, wolf, turtle, and bear, is displayed in the tree of peace.

    The 4,777 employees of the Oneida Indian Nation collectively paid nearly $25 million in federal income tax, social security and state income taxes. On top of what the employees paid, the Nation paid nearly $9 million to Social Security to cover its portion for employees.
