Personal Fitness Instruction

Dakota Bluewolf and Linda Sevier are certified personal trainers whose services are available to Nation Members, employees and Health Center clients 16 years and older, by appointment. To schedule an appointment, contact Mike Washo at (315) 829-8713 or 1-800-663-4324.

Dakota is available on Wednesdays from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Linda Sevier, A.C.E. certified personal trainer is available Tuesday and Thursday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in the Elders Center exercise room and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Recreation Center.

Both will provide one-on-one personal training instruction including fitness assessments, flexibility, strength and cardiovascular training, and instruction on proper use of fitness equipment. Preference will be given to Health Center clients with diabetes, pre-diabetes, metabolic syndrome, obesity, heart disease or hypertension.

Basic fitness assessment involves measuring a person’s flexibility, strength and endurance using a variety of movements. The assessment process will vary from person to person, depending on their age, fitness level, and medical or physical restrictions. All assessments are conducted in the privacy of the Nation gymnasium.

The benefit of a fitness assessment is to determine a person’s strengths and weaknesses. The results will show areas which need improvement, and also be used to design the most appropriate fitness program.

Personal fitness instruction also varies, depending on individual needs. For example, Linda can demonstrate proper usage of fitness room equipment; or help the individual set fitness goals such as improved flexibility, strength and cardiovascular endurance. She can also provide fitness assessments and personal fitness instruction for special populations, such as people with diabetes or who have physical restrictions.

Dakota and Linda will meet with the individual to establish a health history and set fitness and/or weight loss goals. Sponsored by the Oneida Nation Health Department's Diabetes Program.

The Fourth of July marks the day the colonists declared their independence from England in 1776. Oneida warriors fought on the side of the colonists at the important Battles of Oriskany and Saratoga in New York State, as well as the skirmish at Barren Hill in Pennsylvania. Read more »
