Social Dance and Monthly Dinner - Come Dance for the Creator
Nation Members and Health Center clients and their families are invited to monthly dinners in the Cookhouse and social dancing in the Council House. Singers and dancers, especially males, are needed at the weekly socials. The purpose of socials, says Kandice is to "get people to come together, socialize and dance for their Creator...to show Him that we remember those songs and dances and that we are making efforts to keep them alive in our communities." Men are needed at the socials to help sing, according to tradition. The summer dates for monthly dinners are Friday, July 11, August 1 and September 12 from 6 p.m.- 10 p.m. Socials are Wednesday, July 23, August 13 and September 24 from 6 p.m.-8 p.m. Pizza will be served prior to the socials. For additional information, contact Kandice Watson, education and cultural outreach director and coordinator of the monthly community dinners and socials at (315)829-8363. Please note: The monthly dinner and social dance schedule is subject to change. Monthly dinners and social dances are co-sponsored by the Oneida Nation Government Programs & Services Health Department Diabetes Program to raise awareness of nutrition and traditional physical activity, and their role in preventing diabetes and obesity. Participants do not have to be diabetic. |
