Coed Fitness Boxing Class Fitness boxing classes will be held Sundays, March 14 to April 4 in the gym from 12 p.m. - 1 p.m. Open to individuals 15 years and older, including employees. Learn self defense with footwork, punching, blocking/evading and combinations. The instructor is Cole Perkins, certified fitness trainer. NEW! Coed Cross-Fit Training Cross-fit training classes will be held Sundays, March 14 to April 4 in the gym from 1 p.m. - 2 p.m. Open to ages 15 and older, including employees. Cross-fit is an intensive style of training where participants perform exercises at several stations. Cole Perkins is the instructor. NEW! Coed Youth Conditioning Program A coed youth conditioning program will be held in the gym on Sundays from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. for ages 10 -15. Cole Perkins will help individuals to prepare for sports or overall conditioning. The focus will be on foot drills, sprints, and agility drills that will improve their speed, strength and endurance. Youth Lacrosse Youth 11-17 years old can learn the fundamentals of lacrosse on Mondays from 7 p.m. - 8 p.m. in the gym. The program is coed and open to the public. Players must wear sneakers and shorts and provide a stick, helmet, athletic protector and gloves. Ends March 29. YOUTH DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM For the all ages events on March 3, 8, 15, and 31, children 9 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or other adult. Youth Ambassadors Program March Activities March 1 - monthly meeting, 6 p.m. March 12 - Hope in Action project meeting, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Review projects and assign jobs. March 19 - visit Onondaga Community College, 5:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. Students must bring money for dinner. March 26 - go to N’Vasion Paintball Arena in Rochester, 5:30 p.m. - 11 p.m. $10 per person. March 29 - meeting to discuss Boston trip, 6 p.m. HEALTH DEPARTMENT Three Sisters Recipes Needed A new Three Sisters Cookbook is being planned and recipes are needed from Nation Members and Health Center clients. Children’s Dental Health Month Contest All entries for the children’s coloring contest must be dropped off to the Health Center by March 5. Winners will be notified March 12. Three Sisters Dinner Thursday, March 18 in the Elders Dining Room. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Traditional Three Sisters dishes of corn, beans and squash will be served, along with venison stew, corn soup and pan bread, buffalo meatloaf , baked dilled haddock, maple salmon, roasted turkey breast, honey cornbread, fanciful corn, green beans with lemon, baked squash and apples, mixed squash sauté, greens and beans, herb roasted red potatoes, vegetable and cheese platters, dessert and beverages. Three Sisters recipes and garden seeds will be handed out and there will be a performance by the Oneida Children’s Choir. The evening will end with door prize drawings and a social dance. Diabetes Self-Management Support Group The group will meet on Tuesday, March 23 at 5:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Elders Center. Mike Washo and Kara Kaplan, facilitate the group in discussions on nutrition, exercise and diabetes management. New members welcome. BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES Substance Abuse Treatment Groups Groups offered at the Behavioral Health Services office (former bingo hall) on Mondays at 2 p.m. and at the Northeast Community Center on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. The program supports recovery from alcohol and/or drugs and coexisting mental health problems. The group is run by a Certified Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor from Behavioral Health Services.
