Healthy Teeth = Happy Winners

Twelve lucky Oneida Indian Nation dental department clients walked away with special prizes following a coloring contest held in honor of Children’s Dental Health Month.

“Our goal is to get the children interested in doing something dental-related without getting them into the dental chair,” Lisa Winn, dental assistant, said. “We are educators as well as practitioners, and we want our clients to have good experiences. More importantly, decay is preventable. With proper maintenance you can even stop periodontal disease from spreading.”

Winners were announced in March. Of the 30 entries, Lisa said there were 12 winners total. The top submissions were on display for all to see in the dental waiting area.

Prizes were awarded in each age category -- children up to age 4, ages 5 to 8, and ages 9 to 12. The grand prize, awarded to Aleric Hazeltine, age 5, was four movie tickets. Those finishing in second and third place, as well as those earning honorable mention nods, received electronic tooth brushes, Sponge Bob Square Pants tooth paste, and kid floss.
