Be sure the check out the rest of this newsletter as well as the calendar for details. Washington, D.C. Trip On March 21-23, we will travel to exciting Washington, D.C. A visit to the National Museum of the American Indian, Arlington National Cemetery and other exciting venues are in the works. Our hotel is located in the heart of the capital’s famous tourist district, just a half block from Pennsylvania Ave., between the Capitol and the White House - easy walking distance to most of the Smithsonian museums and the Metro. The trip is free for Oneida Nation Elders. A refundable $20 deposit is necessary to hold reservations. If room permits, others may join us at their own expense. Caregivers Support Group Our caregivers support group, Teyakhishnyehe’, is an ideal place to share concerns and feelings with others who understand and can offer solutions and emotional support in a confidential setting. The group will meet on Wednesday, Feb. 29 at 12 p.m. If you are providing primary care for a grandchild and would like some helpful information, contact Jeanne Dee Northington at 829-8330. Healthy Heart Luncheon Join us for a special Healthy Heart Luncheon – Wear Red Day on Wednesday, Feb. 8 at noon. The lunch is held in February to commemorate American Heart Month and to raise awareness of heart disease in women. Everyone attending will be eligible to win a door prize and get their blood pressure and cholesterol checked. The event will also include a healthy heart cooking demonstration. Please make a lunch reservation by Feb. 1. Call 829-8154. Be sure to wear something red! Painting with Birdy Learn painting techniques from locally renowned artist, Birdy Burdick during her painting classes at the Center. Birdy will be teaching on Monday, Feb. 6 at 9:30 a.m. and Thursday, Feb. 16 at 1 p.m. Class size is limited so be sure to sign up quickly! All painting supplies are provided for Elders. Red Dessert Contest For all our talented bakers, we are having a red dessert contest on Friday, Feb. 10 at 12:45 p.m. Bring in your favorite homemade “red” dessert item to be judged by the audience who will determine the top three entries. All desserts must be received no later than noon. Prizes and yummy desserts will make for a fun-filled afternoon at the Center. Valentine's Tea Our annual Valentine’s Tea is Tuesday, Feb. 14. This year we will travel to the Trenton Tea Room in Utica for our “high tea.” The trip is free for Nation Elders with a $20 refundable deposit due by Feb. 7. The van will leave the Center at 12:45 p.m. Wii Tournament Our six-week Wii tournament got off to a great start last month with 13 Elders competing. This tournament takes us across the globe for “Bowling World Lanes.” Join us for a lot of laughs on Thursday, Feb. 2 and Thursday Feb. 23 at 12:45 p.m. Eat Smart - Live Strong We are working with Madison County Cooperative Extension to bring the Eat Smart ~ Live Strong six-week program to our Center. This program is designed to help you learn about nutrition, meal planning, healthy food shopping on a budget, cooking and food safety, weight control, physical activity, and much more. Check the sign in sheets for the launch date or call the office at 829-8133 for more information.
