Spreading Cheer
Members of the Oneida Nation Police Department regularly visit Nation programs and services throughout the year, taking the time to get to know the community, programs and agencies they are protecting.
Recently, the community policing initiative took on a seasonal slant when Officer Tim Boehlert and Sgt. Lori Billy-Marnell took on the roles of Santa Claus and one hard-working elf as they made their rounds. The pair met with children and elders at the Ray Elm Children and Elders Center, and even stopped by to visit the Oneida Nation Health Center. “This is an event that the Nation Police does every year,” said Carrie Colbert, administrative assistant to the Oneida Nation Police chief. “The children were so surprised, as were the Elders. I believe everyone that met with Santa and his helper was very excited and happy to see them.” This is just one example of how the Nation Police strive to establish links with various programs, services and — more important — with community members, employees, and visitors.
