Approximately 20 preschool and prekindergarten students at the Oneida Nation Early Learning Center took to the center’s playground walkways with their bikes, tricycles and scooters to raise $679 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The annual event also helps staff instill important bicycle safety measures and valuable rules of the road, said Bonnie Strail, head teacher for the preschool classroom. “Children have learned that you need to be watching where you are going,” she said. “When you’re riding your bike (you have to) look out for not only other kids that are riding their bicycles, but vehicles as well pulling out of the driveways into the streets. We’re trying to teach them the rules of the road.” St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital’s mission is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. No child is denied treatment based on race, religion or a family’s ability to pay. The hospital was founded by the late actor Danny Thomas.
