Hearing Check
Over the years, the issues tackled at the annual Elders Conference have run the gamut from the initial segments on dementia, elder abuse and the risks of using multiple medications. This year topics included diabetes, arthritis, and eye and ear care. Each year topics are selected to help elders live their best lives.
Hearing loss is an equal-opportunity thief. And, according to Dr. David Gordon, ear, nose and throat specialist, it can affect all generations. Congenital hearing loss is a condition babies are born with; acquired loss happens after birth and has myriad causes, including acute ear infections; fluid behind the ear drum; normal aging; serious illness, such as meningitis; head injury; and noise exposure. “Hearing is precious and loss is permanent,” said Dr. Gordon. “Hearing aids improve your hearing, but it isn’t your old hearing.” Most PopularInformation, photos, video or graphics from www.OneidaIndianNation.com may not be republished, uploaded, posted or distributed in any way without the prior approval of Oneida Indian Nation Communications.
