Foundation Awards Grants to Hospital, Health and Human Services Groups

The Oneida Nation Foundation has announced grants of $1,000 apiece to 10 regional organizations whose missions are focused on caring for others in the Central New York community.
In the spirit of Valentine's Day, checks were presented to each of the following hospital, health, and family-service oriented organizations:
  • American Diabetes Association, Utica Chapter;
  • Community General Hospital Foundation, Syracuse;
  • Crouse Health Foundation, Syracuse;
  • Francis House, Syracuse;
  • Hospice Care Foundation, Inc.;
  • Resource Center for Independent Living, Utica;
  • Syracuse Veteran's Affairs Medical Center;
  • Upstate Medical University Foundation, Syracuse; awarded to the Joslin Pediatric Diabetes Endowment Center;
  • Upstate Medical University Foundation, Syracuse; granted to the Ronald E. Willis Endowment for Cardiology Research; and
  • Vera House, Inc., Syracuse.
''These organizations focus on taking care of others - and they do a great job of helping Central New Yorkers who have special health or family service needs. In addition, the hospice care facilities and several specialized hospital services in this area are second to none in their compassionate service. These grants are being given in support of the wonderful work done by these groups,'' Chuck Fougnier, Foundation chairman, noted at the presentation.
The Foundation also awarded several supporting gifts to five other area agencies in January. They are:
  • Mohawk Valley Resource Center for Refugees;
  • Manlius Pebble Hill School, for its annual spring gala;
  • Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Central New York Chapter;
  • Herkimer County Community College; and
  • American Legion #787 Ladies Auxiliary of Cicero, in support of the group's mailing of care boxes to U.S. troops in Iraq.
The Oneida Nation Foundation is the formal philanthropic arm of the Oneida Indian Nation. ''The Nation has a long history of giving community grants to thousands of area organizations, and it has done so for as long as we have had the resources to share,'' Fougnier noted. He said that Nation contributions to the community date back to the mid-1980s, from the time the Nation's first businesses began to show a profit, and the tradition has continued for more than 20 years.
