Turning Stone:  A Destination Resort That's Big on Golf

Located about 30 miles east of Syracuse, N.Y., the Oneida Indian Nation's Turning Stone Resort and Casino is the top golf resort in the Northeast.  The fun and relaxing destination is located within a hour or so of the Adirondack Mountains, the Finger Lakes and Cooperstown.

Atunyote Golf Course

Atunyote Golf Club hosts the annual Turning Stone Resort Championship, the opening event for the PGA TOUR's Fall Series. Recognized for excellence by leading magazines Golf, Golf Digest, Golfweek and Travel & Leisure Golf, Atunyote is one of three championship golf courses at the resort. Pictured is the fifth hole.

The Lodge at Turning Stone

The Lodge at Turning Stone, a AAA Four-Diamond rated hotel, was also recognized as "Most Excellent Resort' by Condé Nast Johansens in 2007. The all-suite boutique hotel is also home to Wildflowers restaurant and the luxurious Skana Spa.

The three spectacular, championship golf courses at Turning Stone have garnered national recognition in many of the leading golf magazines, including Golf, Golf Digest, Golfweek and Travel & Leisure Golf.  One of those courses, the Tom Fazio-designed Atunyote Golf Club, is the host of an annual PGA TOUR event, the Turning Stone Resort Championship.  The other two courses, the Shenendoah and Kaluhyat Golf Clubs, are recognized for their attention to the environment and have earned the coveted Audubon International Signatory Status.

In addition to the three championship courses, Turning Stone has two nine-hole courses and an indoor golf training center.

When it comes to accommodations, The Lodge at Turning Stone leads the pack.  The 95-all suite boutique hotel was named "Most Excellent Resort" by Conde Nast Johansens in 2007.  Both The Lodge and the 287-room Tower Hotel have attained the prestigious four diamond rating from the AAA.  In addition to those two gems, the resort has a 268-room hotel, a 62-room inn and a 175-site RV park.

On the entertainment scene, this destination getaway attracts many national acts to its 5,000-seat event center and 800-seat Showroom.  Turning Stone rounds out its entertainment venues with a state-of-art dance club and a conference center.  When it comes to dining, there are more than 15 dining outlets, including a Brazilian steakhouse, multi-station buffet and a gourmet restaurant, Wildflowers.  The resort also has a soon-to-open tennis dome.

One of the unique amenities at Turning Stone is Skana, a destination spa that features treatments used by the Oneida Indians and other Iroquois people.  A look at Turning Stone would not be complete without mentioning the exciting gaming opportunities -- nearly 2,300 gaming machines, 89-table games, a 22-table poker room and a 1,356-seat high stakes bingo hall.
