Turning Stone Resort Casino’s Shenendoah Golf Club hosted the first Golf Québec Vertdure Provincial Junior Tour event of the 2012 season April 21 and 22. The Duquette Construction Junior Spring Open drew 180 amateur boys and girls ages 18 and under from across Québec, Canada.
Girls’ winner Josée Doyton of Bauceville played her last tournament as a junior, as she turns 19 April 28. Doyton shot rounds of 72 and 70 to finish two under par for the tournament, eight shots ahead of second place finishers Valérie Tanquay and Katherine Gravel-Couorsol. Boys’ winner Hugo Bernard, representing Vallée du Richelieu Golf Club, shot a second round 67 to put him at one under par, a three stroke margin of victory over Mathieu Kennis and Joey Savoie. Turning Stone Director of Golf Robert Todd said, “The level of golf we saw from these young amateurs was outstanding, despite challenging weather. Golf Québec’s choice of Turning Stone Resort and Shenendoah Golf club proves that we truly are an international golf destination. We look forward to their return in the near future.” Shenendoah offers 18 holes of PGA-level golf in a spectacular natural setting. The course was built and is maintained to comply with stringent Audubon International standards for environmental protection and preservation. Designer Rick Smith used the natural landscape to create wooded parkland holes, open pastures that capture the links feel, and beautifully simple low country-style holes.
