National Children’s Magazine Highlights Oneidas’ First Animation
The Nov. 2008 issue of Scholastic News for fourth graders across the country has a centerfold feature, “Proud Traditions,” with articles describing how “Kids and others work to keep American Indian histories and heritages alive.” One of the three Indian cultures that the publication focuses on is the Oneida Indian Nation. In the magazine story, Dale Rood of the Nation Council speaks about the ancient legends he heard from his grandmother and how the Oneidas’ studio that he heads is working to bring those legends to life for generations to come through 3D animation. The Nation’s first animated short, “Raccoon & Crawfish,” has won 17 film festivals around the world, as well as being screened at the renowned Cannes Festival in France in May.
