European TV Network Focuses on Refugees Employed at Turning Stone Resort

Phillippe Brachet, a journalist representing the French-German Television network, ARTE, visited the Oneida Nation and its Turning Stone Resort and Casino for a story on refugees in the Utica area. While at Turning Stone, the crew followed Ehser Kanyaw, a poker dealer who is a refugee from Burma. They later interviewed Amil Catovic, a human resources specialist with the Oneida Nation and a former Bosnian refugee. Catovic spoke about the Oneida Nation and its working relationship with the Mohawk Valley Refugee Center in Utica. The Nation employs more than 200 refugees from countries such as Bosnia, Burma, Sudan, Russia and Viet Nam. The television magazine-style story that will focus on the refugees in Central New York is expected to air in December.
