Dale Rood, Turtle Clan representative to The Oneida Nation Council, presents a “friendship feather,” an Indian symbol of warm welcome and good tidings to entertainer, Howie Mandell. Entertainers at Turning Stone Learn about Oneida History and Culture
Entertainers who play the Showroom and the Event Center at Turning Stone Resort have a unique opportunity to learn about the history and culture of the resort’s owner-operators through informational art posters which decorate the Showroom’s “Green Room” area.
The posters come in a series of 17, and are sized to be displayed six at a time, creating a cohesive informational exhibit. They are on display along Showroom walls in the back-of-the-house area where entertainers relax before and after shows, do their “meet and greet” photographs with VIP guests, and where members of the Oneida Nation Council often also provide them with an official Oneida welcome and gift. The artworks serve as interesting décor and conversation pieces. As quick reads, they also provide an easy and enjoyable way to take in a short history or cultural lesson. In just a few minutes, entertainers can pick up a great deal of information about the Oneidas. The posters are part of the acclimation many entertainers and VIP guests are provided on this tour stop. The goal is to help them understand the unique story of the Oneida Nation and the development and purpose of Turning Stone Resort, as well as its role in the continuing redevelopment of the Oneida Nation community. Many of the top stars are treated to a personal official welcome from the Oneida Nation government, as well. Nation Council members frequently meet the entertainers before or after their shows, bringing traditional greetings of welcome and goodwill, and presenting a “friendship feather,” an Indian symbol of warm welcome and good tidings. Entertainers who have been greeted in this way include: Howie Mandel, Fergie, Reba McIntire, Trace Adkins, Kellie Pickler, Sugarland, Dolly Parton, Clay Aiken, Toby Keith and Lee Ann Rimes, Josh Groban, Tony Bennett, Alan Jackson, Stevie Nicks, Michael Buble, Mary J. Blige and many, many more.
