SāvOn Stores raise more than $17,000 for MDA
The Oneida Indian Nation’s SāvOn stores raised $17,591 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s annual shamrock sales in the 2009 campaign, more than $3,500 over last year’s total. The Canastota store again led the fund-raising effort, accounting for $3,830 of the total.
The money is used to help children with neuromuscular diseases attend the MDA’s summer camp, where they learn and practice skills that help them year-round. This is the seventh year the SāvOn stores have participated in the shamrock sales campaign. Since 2003, the Nation stores have raised about $80,000 – enough to send 100 children to MDA Summer Camp. The Oneida Indian Nation operates 12 SāvOn gas stations and convenience stores in Oneida and Madison counties. Each location offers a range of convenience food and other essentials such as motor oil, windshield washer fluid, batteries and film.
