Oneida Nation’s Direct Economic Impact Tops a Half Billion Dollars a Year

Last year, the Oneida Indian Nation generated an economic impact of nearly $560 million. As the largest employer in Oneida and Madison counties and one of the top employers in all of Upstate New York, the Nation has been the major economic engine for this region since the 1990s. The economic impact comes from the more than $126.2 million paid to the Nation’s 4,777 employees and the money spent by them and their families with businesses locally and beyond (including the $4.1 million they paid in state income taxes and the $11.6 million paid in federal income taxes).

On top of that, the Nation spent $433 million for goods and services (including construction)--$150 million of that with businesses in Oneida, Madison and Onondaga counties, another $100 million with businesses in other parts of New York and $183 million with businesses beyond New York State. In addition to the economic impact detailed above, there is also the spending at area businesses by the more than four million guests that annually come to Turning Stone Resort and Casino for entertainment, golf, gaming, dining, relaxation and meetings/trade shows.
