Halbritter and Picente Discuss Agreement with an Eye Toward the Future
During the May 13 evening newscast on WKTV in Utica, Oneida Nation Representative and Chief Executive Officer Ray Halbritter and Oneida County Executive Tony Picente did a joint, live interview about the recent agreement they announced on land and tax issues. They both spoke about stopping the divisiveness and looking toward the future—building an economy in Oneida County that will create more jobs. During the interview, Halbritter said he has received a letter from an entrepreneur who the Nation has developed a relationship with, Irwin Jacobs, a wealthy Midwest businessman and owner of Genmar. Jacobs says Genmar, a boat manufacturer, is interested in locating a facility on Nation lands which would bring 150 new jobs as long as the relationship with local communities is stabilized. Halbritter also spoke of another company that would create jobs in the energy sector, namely bringing to our area an advanced technology project that integrates renewable energy and new generation technologies.
