Oneida Lacrosse Sticks Featured in FilmJames McDaniel, executive producer of the film “The Only Good Indian,” came to the Oneida Nation in 2007 looking for American Indians who could play lacrosse and for authentic lacrosse sticks. Three Oneida Members, Alex Dickerman, John Logan and Ron Patterson were intimately involved in the making of the film, originally expected to be released in 2008. “The Only Good Indian” now scheduled for theatrical release December 1, 2009, depicts life in the Bureau of Indian Affairs boarding schools in 1910. Visitors to the official web site of the film can now see the official trailer and a gallery of stills, the first two of which depict the game of lacrosse using sticks crafted by Oneida Member Ron Patterson. “The Only Good Indian,” starring Wes Studi, was an official selection at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2009.
