Turning Stone Resort & Casino Celebrates Chinese New Year
The actual Chinese New Year begins in Mid-February and in anticipation Turning Stone Resort and Casino is getting a head start by celebrating on Jan 29 and 30 in the Event Center. Comedian Henry Cho starts the weekend off with his performance on Fri, Jan 29. Cho, whose comedy draws from childhood experiences as a Korean-American descendent raised in Tennessee, appears in the Showroom at 8 p.m. Tickets for Cho’s performance are $20, $25 & $35.
Then, in advance of the Chinese New Year and in celebration of Asian culture, Turning Stone presents “Year of the Tiger: A Celebration of the Chinese New Year”, Jan. 29-30, 2010. Saturday afternoon at 3 and in the evening at 8 attend an awe-inspiring Chinese performance featuring both traditional and contemporary Chinese dance, acrobatics, Shaolin Kung Fu and magic. Tickets for both performances are $20 & $25 and available through the Turning Stone Box Office. The traditional Chinese Lion Dance and strolling entertainment takes place throughout the resort on Sat at 11am, 12pm, 1pm, 5pm, and 6pm. In China, the number 8 is considered lucky. Eight dollars are commonly found in red envelopes, traditionally passed out during Chinese New Year celebrations. Turning Stone’s Lucky 8 promotion allows Diamond Card holders to simply scan their cards between Jan. 3-31 to enter a drawing for the top prize of $8,888 to be held on Sun, Jan 31.
