A group of educators from Indonesia toured the Oneida Nation on Tuesday, Sept. 13. The visit was under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program and was made possible by Meridian International Center and The International Center of the Capital Region. The group visited Turning Stone Resort and toured the Ray Elm Children and Elders Center, the Shako:wi Cultural Center and other Oneida Nation facilities. The visit to the Oneida Nation was one stop in New York’s Capital Region portion of a month-long tour of the U.S. designed to help the group gain an understanding of the American system of education. The tour includes becoming familiar with indigenous people and their culture.
