Oneida Nation Living Historian Brings Revolutionary War to Life

Oneida Nation Member and Living Historian Samantha Meta presented a program for the public, The Six Nations at the Battle of Oriskany, on Saturday, Sept. 3, at the Oriskany Battlefield. For their part, the Oneida Indian Nation fought alongside the colonists as their first ally in their fight for independence. During the American Revolution, the Oneidas stood with the colonists at battles in Oriskany, Saratoga and Barren Hill (PA), as well as carrying their corn to aid George Washington’s starving troops at Valley Forge. Meta (pictured on the far left) is part of the Oneida Nation’s living history group, First Allies.
