Ray Halbritter Delivers Closing Remarks at Latino Upstate Summit
Ray Halbritter, Oneida Nation Representative and CEO of Nation Enterprises, gave the closing address at the 2011 Latino Upstate Summit, held on Oct. 21 at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica. The purpose of the conclave was to address the role of people of Latino descent in this country as it relates to community life, the economy and civic affairs. Speaking about the summit, Halbritter said “The Oneida people have a special understanding of the challenges faced by the Latino community in New York, and we have a unique appreciation for all the obstacles they have overcome to get to where they are today.” He added, “During these difficult economic times, it is critical that business leaders, community leaders and cultural leaders stand together to bring about positive change for our communities.”
The summit was convened through a partnership of Latino community-based organizations across New York State, including Centro Civic of Amsterdam, Centro Civico Hispanoamericano of Albany, the Mohawk Valley Latino Association, the Spanish Action League of Onondaga County, the Ibero-American Action League of Rochester and Hispanics United of Buffalo. Other participating organizations included Capital District 100 Hispanic Women, CNY Latino, Noticias y Notas.
