Spotlight on the Oneida Nation’s Workforce

The Oneida Indian Nation is the largest employer in Oneida and Madison counties and the number four employer in the 16 counties of greater Central New York.  The jobs performed by the Nation’s 4,750 employees run the full gamut-- from dealers, food & beverage servers, golf pros and chefs to lawyers, accountants, financial analysts and doctors.  A county-by-county analysis of the employee base provides a breakdown of where employees live:

                Oneida County                                  63.7%

                Madison County                               24.6%

                Onondaga County                           8.4%

                Herkimer County                             1.9%

                Other                                                  1.4%

The vast majority of the Nation’s employees hail from Central New York and working at the Nation and its enterprises keeps them here.  Some of the Nation’s management team moved here while others grew up in Central New York, moved away and working for the Nation enabled them to return home.  At the executive level, several grew up here and worked first at other employers in Central New York, while others came here from afar for opportunity—from places like Nevada, Connecticut, New Mexico and California.
