Turning Stone has become the first American Indian casino resort in the country to try out the PGA Medalist Junior Program, a youth player development curriculum that will be kicked off nationally in 2011. In a news release issued by the PGA, Ray Halbritter, Oneida Nation Representative and CEO of Nation Enterprises, said “The Oneida Nation is pleased to partner with the PGA of America to create a unique program to bring youth to the game of golf. The Nation is fortunate to have been the pioneer in this effort and we thank the PGA of America for that special opportunity. “He added, “We look forward to the next phase that continues this activity strengthens interaction among families of our Oneida People. This program, hopefully, will serve as a model for other nations throughout the part of Indian country represented by the United South and Eastern Tribes.” This program features the components of physical and motor skill development, sportsmanship, play opportunities and skill assessments.
