Response Regarding President Obama’s Native American Heritage Day Message - 11/25/09

From Mark Emery, director of media relations for the Oneida Nation
Nov. 25, 2009

The Oneida Indian Nation acknowledges the attention and recognition that President Obama has given to American Indians all across this country. It is appreciated and signals a new era between our respective governments. The conference he held in October, his proclamation of November as Native American Heritage Month and Nov. 27 as Native American Heritage Day is a testament to his wanting a better relationship for this country with Indian tribes. He has appropriately encouraged all Americans to better understand the “rich culture, tradition and history” of American Indians and their contributions to the United States.
