Oneida leader Ray Halbritter announces cultural exchange between NYC Latino youth and Oneida Nation Members
The Community Association of Progressive Dominicans (ACPD) at their 30th anniversary celebration honored Ray Halbritter, Oneida Nation Representative and CEO of Nation Enterprises. The event was held Thursday night at the Malcolm X and Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center in New York City. At the gala, Halbritter announced a cultural exchange program that will bring New York City Latino youth to the Oneida Nation Homelands to learn about New York’s American Indian history.
In receiving the honor, Halbritter said, “I am truly honored to be recognized by an organization that has done so much for Latino children and families throughout New York City. ACDP and the Oneida Indian Nation share a common commitment to building a better future for our children and the 7th generation.”
Halbritter went on to add that the cultural exchange program would provide a great opportunity for young Latinos and American Indians to learn about their shared history. Halbritter said, “The Oneida people have always believed that the hearts of young people are pure, and they are able to see things that the older generation miss. This program will be an important step in building long-term ties between our communities.”
ACDP Executive Soledad Chicano said, “We are extremely honored to partner with The Oneida Indian Nation for this exchange youth program. The 24,000 Latino immigrant families that we served in our programs yearly know firsthand about struggles, dreams and aspirations. This exchange will allow our Latino youth to learn about the Oneida experience of perseverance, triumph and challenges over generations. We are very thankful for the willingness and support that the Oneida Nation is placing in this program.”
