Oneida Nation Applauds Court Decision to Reject Law Firm’s Effort to Recover Attorney Fees - 7/12/11
A ruling issued by U.S. District Judge Lawrence Kahn affirms an order from the U.S. Magistrate Judge Randolph F. Treece limiting Bond, Schoeneck & King law firm’s recovery of attorneys’ fees for representing the Oneida Nation in the original land claim “test case” to roughly $5,000.
Director of Media Relations Mark Emery stated: “We are pleased that the Court recognized in its ruling that all parties, even large law firms, must comply with their agreements. While we believe the firm’s appeal should have been stricken all together due to Bond, Schoeneck & King’s violation of the Court’s order requiring confidentiality, this ruling confirms the law firm’s request for considerably more money from the Nation, as its former client, than was provided in our agreement was overreaching and unwarranted. Hopefully this ruling will save other clients from similar tactics in the future.” Most PopularInformation, photos, video or graphics from www.OneidaIndianNation.com may not be republished, uploaded, posted or distributed in any way without the prior approval of Oneida Indian Nation Communications.
