Unifying Our Homelands
The Oneida Indian Nation held a private Signing Ceremony in the Oneida Council House to officially recognize the transfer of more than 13,000 acres of ancestral Oneida homelands into federal trust.
The transfer of Oneida homelands into federal trust protects against state and local efforts to tax and regulate Nation lands and gives the Nation autonomy over the land's use and stewardship. Today, the Oneida Indian Nation has regained recognized sovereignty over more than 18,000 acres of its homelands, the most it has since 1824.
