On May 29th and 30th, the Oneida Indian Nation will host the 19th annual Aging Well Elders Conference at Turning Stone Resort Casino. This year’s event focuses on how laughter is always the best medicine with special guest speaker, Dr. Darryl Tonemah, delivering a keynote address on day one that is sure to keep the audience in stitches.
The Elders Conference provides workshops throughout each day on a variety of subjects of interest to Elders and their caregivers. The workshops will offer a chance to learn more about self-defense, new technology, healthy cooking and many other topics. Nation Members Tammy Tarbell (Turtle Clan), Kathryn Halbritter (Wolf Clan) and Sheri Beglen (Wolf Clan) will be presenting three separate workshops at the conference. Tammy will provide a crash course on how to use smart phones and other cell phones to send and receive texts and take photos, in addition to answering questions from Elders. Kathryn will show Elders how to make great tasting food using healthy ingredients that will be better alternatives when preparing meals. Sheri will inform Elders on the healing values of every day spices found in the home.
The Oneida Indian Nation takes great pride in providing excellent programs and services to our Elders. The conference is free to American Indian Elders and staff from Indian Nations in New York State working with American Indian Elders. All others pay $25. Lunch and breaks included. Contact the Elders Program at (315) 829-8155 for more information and to register for either day at the conference. Registrations need to be completed by May 20.
