Oneida Indian Nation Police Department
Committed to serving the government, community, lands, and enterprises of the Oneida Indian Nation, the department enforces federal, state and Oneida Indian Nation laws and ordinances. Deputized by federal authority, the Oneida Indian Nation Police Department was the first tribal police force in the U.S. to receive accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies and is a professionally trained law enforcement agency empowered by the sovereign authority of the Oneida Indian Nation.
Our police department is led by Chief of Police, David Verne who assumed the role of effective October 1, 2023. In the 40+ years he’s been in law enforcement, he has demonstrated excellent leadership capabilities and the greatest devotion to carrying out the community policing mission of the Oneida Indian Nation Police Department.

Report It
Crime victims, regardless how seemingly insignificant the crime, are encouraged to promptly report the incident to the Oneida Indian Nation Police or the appropriate police agency. To report a crime, a victim or witness need only call the police phone number (315) 829-8100, and a police officer will meet them to gather the information.
Report Anonymously If you have information about suspected criminal activity in our community, you can assist the Oneida Indian Nation Police and remain anonymous by contacting our confidential Taking an Interest in your Personal Safety (TIPS) line at (315) 361-7563.
Safety Classes
Defensive Driving Course We offer the national safety council defensive driving class every month. Completion of the class entitles up to 10% off car insurance or 4 points off the driver’s license record. Cost of the program is $20. Classes are held 8am – 4pm and are open to all team members, team member families and Nation Members. Hunting Safety Course The Oneida Indian Nation Police Department issues hunting and fishing licenses to American Indians to hunt or fish on Oneida Indian Nation land only. For information on free hunting licenses for American Indians through New York State for state land, please contact the DEC at 1-631-444-0355 or www.dec.ny.gov. The class is a free service and available to people 12 years of age and above. Please contact the Oneida Indian Nation Police at 315-829-8100 for further information.
