Oneida Indian Nation Homelands (November 15, 2023) – Turning Stone Enterprises announced today that The Cove at Sylvan Beach was named as a winner in Good Housekeeping’s 2024 Family Travel Awards. The full list of awards can be found at goodhousekeeping.com/familytravel2024.

Representatives from the Good Housekeeping Institute visited The Cove to experience the Upstate New York lakeside family vacation destination and evaluated the resort for value, quality, safety, innovation, inclusion and convenience. The experts from Good Housekeeping also reviewed feedback from more than 3,000 verified travelers who visited award contenders during the past two years. Hundreds of destinations were considered, and The Cove was ultimately chosen among the best of the best for family travel in the Northeast.

The Cove’s innovative resort model combines everything families love about vacation rentals with the guest service and amenities of a world-class resort. The Cove provides families the convenience and luxury to spread out in their own two- or three-bedroom cottage where they can also grill dinner on their own gas grill, prepare a home-cooked meal in their own kitchen – or just grab a quick bite to eat from Sylvan Beach Supply Co, The Cove’s café and general store. Plus, located on Oneida Lake, New York’s largest lake, families have the unique opportunity to enjoy their own personal pontoon boat that is included with their cottage for a day on the water and visit several beaches around the lake.

“Since the day we put our first pontoon boat in the water, The Cove at Sylvan Beach has earned the distinction as a special and unique destination for families to spend time together and experience the beauty of Upstate New York,” said Oneida Indian Nation Representative and Turning Stone Enterprises CEO Ray Halbritter. “This ‘Seal of Approval’ from Good Housekeeping reflects our commitment to providing families an amazing place to enjoy and make lifelong memories.”

The Cove at Sylvan Beach features 70 contemporary and two- and three-bedroom cottages, with in-unit washer and dryer, an outdoor heated pool, gas grill for every cottage, fire pits, full-sized kitchen, a playground and more. The new lakeside vacation rental destination showcases the best of Upstate New York with 70 beautifully appointed cottages featuring in-unit washers and dryers, full eat-in kitchens, gas grills, fire pits, a heated in-ground pool and other amenities. Kids of all ages can enjoy the “Tree-Mendous” playground complete with a zip line and buoy swings.

From Good Housekeeping’s article highlighting the 2024 Family Travel Awards:

“For your next lakefront getaway or even family reunion, you don’t have to choose between a vacation rental and a resort. Open from May to October, The Cove at Sylvan Beach consists of 70 adorable two- and three-bedroom cottages with kitchens, outdoor grills, living rooms and washer/dryers. There are also resort-like perks including a heated pool that’s lifeguarded, a playground, organized activities, and a grab-and-go marketplace offering sundries, ice cream and of course coffee. Each family receives its own pontoon boat to use on Oneida Lake, and you can rent gear such as water skis, kayaks and paddleboards on-site. As for the beach, it’s a short walk away. Pick up smoothie bowls (there’s a great shop on the way) and eat breakfast admiring the view.”

TESTER NOTES: The property opened last year, and “everything still felt brand new,” said our reviewer, who noted that the three-bedroom cottages had bunks for kids. She added, “The setup of the property and the feel of the cottage give homey vibes with a vacation edge.”

The Good Housekeeping Institute experts spent eight months reviewing hundreds of submissions to find the best travel options for all types of families. When selecting the winners, judges considered standout picks for every trip preference and budget. Winners were selected by travel agents, travel editors, engineers, product analysts and scientists — as well as over 100 travel testers who were recruited to provide first-hand feedback.

Good Housekeeping testers experienced destinations, attractions and travel services to provide insight into aspects like family-friendliness, service level, amenities, activities, inclusivity, sustainability and more.
